Happy birthday, papa!

Today is my father's birthday, and it reminds me of a poem written by the English poet Felicia Dorothea Hemans. She wrote the following poem at the age of eight. Though small she was at that time, she had a big love.

On My Mother's Birthday

                               by Felicia Dorothea Hemans 

Clad in all their brightest green,

This day the verdant fields are seen;

The tuneful birds begin their lay,

To celebrate thy natal day.

The breeze is still, the sea is calm,

And the whole scene combines to charm;

The flowers revive, this charming May,

Because it is thy natal day.

The sky is blue, the day serene,

And only pleasure now is seen;

The rose, the pink, the tulip gay,

Combine to bless thy natal day.

There are two kinds of lyric poems: One is a direct release of emotion;and the other is an implicit expression of feelings. I think this poem fits into the former category. In the eyes of the little poet, eveything including the nature is celebrating her mother's birthday. It is the joy and gay that blue the sky, green the hills, rest the wind, and still the sea. There are no big words in this poem, but the sincere love between lines has made it a big deal.
